Privacy Policy

Money finds money you can get back: double charges, fees, overcharges, free trials about to bill you, and returns or refunds you're owed. This policy explains what we collect, why, who we share it with, and the choices you have.
What we collect
| Data | Where it comes from | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Account details and balances (institution, account name, type, last 4 digits, currency, balance) | Your bank or card provider, through Plaid, when you connect an account; or a statement you upload | To show your accounts and check them |
| Transactions (date, amount, currency, description, merchant, category) | The same, or Apple Wallet (Apple Card, Apple Cash) on iPhone if you allow it | To find money you can get back, and to summarize spending, budgets and recurring bills |
| Statements you upload (PDF, CSV or Excel files) | You | We copy out their transactions and balances. We keep those, not the file |
| Files you attach in a chat with the assistant (statements, WeChat Pay or Alipay bills, receipts, hotel folios) | You | So the assistant can check them against your transactions when you ask. We keep what we read from them (a table's rows, or a PDF's dated lines, references and totals), not the file, for at most 90 days and only your 50 most recent. They are not imported into your accounts |
| Emails about refunds, reimbursements and orders, only if you connect Gmail | Gmail, read-only | To see a refund coming and to know return windows. We keep the sender, subject and the matching snippet, or the order details we read (store, order number, dates, items, total). When you ask the assistant about a charge, it can also search your mailbox and read the emails and attachments (PDF, CSV, Excel) that match your question; what it reads becomes part of that chat, and an attachment it opens is kept like a file you attach. Nothing else in your mailbox is read or kept |
| Things you enter | Goals, budgets, category changes, and your conversations with the assistant (saved so you can return to them on any of your devices) | To provide those features |
| A random account identifier | Created when you first open the app | To keep your data separate from other users' |
| If you sign in: your Apple or Google account ID, email address and name | Apple (Sign in with Apple, which can hide your real email) or Google, when you choose to sign in | To let you use the same account on your iPhone and the web. Signing in is optional; we never ask for a phone number |
We do not receive or store your bank username or password. You enter those in Plaid's own screen, and Plaid gives us a token that allows read-only access to account and transaction data. Money cannot move money, make payments or change anything at your bank.
We do not use advertising identifiers, we do not track you across other apps or websites, and the app contains no third-party analytics or advertising SDKs.
How we use it
Only to provide Money's features: finding money you can get back and checking that it came back, summaries, budgets, bill reminders, low-balance alerts, savings suggestions, goals, the home-screen widget, and the assistant's answers. We do not sell your data and do not use it for advertising.
Who we share it with
We share data only with service providers that help us run Money:
| Provider | What they receive | Purpose |
|---|---|---|
| Plaid | Your bank connection (you give your bank login to Plaid directly) | Retrieving account and transaction data. See Plaid's End User Privacy Policy at plaid.com/legal |
| Finverse (only if you connect a bank in Hong Kong or Southeast Asia through it) | Your bank connection, given to Finverse directly | Retrieving account and transaction data |
| Our AI provider | PDF statements you upload, to copy out their transactions (our code then checks they add up to the statement's balances); merchant names, to sort transactions into categories (never amounts, balances or account numbers); and, when you use the assistant or the monthly review, your messages and the figures they need, files you attach in chat, and the emails or attachments the assistant opens to answer you | Reading statements, categorizing, writing the review and answering your questions |
| Apple, Google (only if you sign in with them, or connect Gmail) | That you are signing in to Money, or Gmail's read-only access | Confirming who you are; reading the emails described above |
| Hosting (Vercel, and Neon for the database) | All data above, stored on our servers | Running the service |
CSV and Excel files are read by our own code, not by the AI provider.
We may disclose information if required by law, or to protect the rights and safety of our users. If Money is acquired or merged, data may transfer to the new owner under this policy.
Security
- Bank-connection tokens are encrypted at rest.
- Data moves between the app and our servers over encrypted connections (HTTPS).
- The iPhone app keeps its access token in the iPhone Keychain. The home-screen widget only reads a small summary saved on your device and holds no credentials.
Retention and deletion
We keep your data while you use Money. You can delete everything at any time in Accounts → Settings → Delete all my data. This removes your account, transactions, uploads, goals, chats and bank connections from our servers. You can also disconnect a single bank in Accounts (which also ends Money's access at Plaid), undo an upload in Accounts → Import history, delete a saved chat from the chat list, or revoke Money's access from Plaid's portal at my.plaid.com. We keep at most your 100 most recent chats, and files attached in chat for at most 90 days.
Your choices and rights
- Upload only the statements you want, connect only the accounts you want, and disconnect them at any time.
- Turn off bill reminders in Settings, or notifications in iOS Settings.
- Depending on where you live (for example California or the EU/UK), you may have additional rights to access, correct, delete or port your data, and to object to certain processing. We will not discriminate against you for exercising them.
Children
Money is not intended for anyone under 18, and we do not knowingly collect data from children.
Financial advice
Money provides general information and estimates to help you understand your finances. It is not investment, tax or legal advice, and we are not a licensed financial adviser.
Changes
If we change this policy in a meaningful way, we will tell you in the app before the change takes effect.
